Monthly Highlight Report for the month of June, 2008

                The following are the highlights of significant activities carried out by the Field Publicity Units of 22 Regional Offices under the Directorate during the month of June, 2008.

AVIAN BIRD FLU

                As soon as Directorate got intimation from the Ministry of I & B regarding outbreak of Avian Flu in West Bengal, MMT DFP immediately instructed all its FPUs in the state to launch awareness drive on the issue. Directorate provided them CDs for screening in affected areas. With the help of CDs and oral communication the Units disseminated relevant information among the people. The Directorate also instructed the North Eastern states and other states bordering West Bengal, namely Tripura, Bihar, Jharkhand, Andhra Pradesh and Orissa to mount awareness drive on Avian Flu. DFP Field Units in all these States swung into action to carryout grassroot publicity programmes on preventive measure in their respective regions.

Public Information Campaign

Field Publicity Units under DFP Regional offices at Pune, Shillong, Itanagar, Silliguri, Orrissa and Chandigarh participated in Public Information Campaigns held at Malegaon, Nongstion, Mariang, Bomdila, Soreng, Nayagarh and Kunihar on Bharat Nirman.

During the pre-PIC publicity DFP Units covered hundreds of villages and reached out to thousands of people to create awareness among  them on the significance of the event going to take place in their area.

AIDS

                DFP Field Units organised publicity programmes on Red Ribbon Express Rail Exhibition in the month of June at Dindigul, Madurai, Trichirapalli, Karur, Puducherry (Tamilnadu). Special publicity programmes were conducted on preventive measures against the killer disease (HIV/AIDs) in Karnataka, Gujarat, Kerala-Lakshadweep, West Bengal(South), West Bengal(N), North West(Chandigarh), Maharashtra and Goa, Mizoram Manipur Tripura, Jammu & Kashmir, Tamilnadu, Andhara Pradesh, Assam & Bihar to the benefit of thousands of people who were ignorant about the disease and the ways to prevent this menace.

Women Empowerment / Child Marriage

            Successful publicity programmes were carried out on women empowerment in Rajasthan, West Bengal (North), North West (Chandigarh), Jammu & Kashmir, MMT, Bihar (North), Karnataka, Chhattisgarh, & other regions. There is a social problem of child marriage in Rajasthan, DFP tried to convince the rural masses and massive awareness programmes regarding law against child marriage were organised in these areas, which includes film shows, oral communications & Nukkad Natak (street play) etc. which were very much appreciated by the people.

National Rural Health Mission

            Public awareness programmes were organised on immunization, pulse polio, NRHM etc in Rajasthan, West Bengal (North), North West (Chandigarh), Jammu & Kashmir, MMT, Bihar(North), Karnataka, Chattisgarh, & other regions. A large number of people in rural areas were benefited by these programmes.

Border Area Development

            Publicity programmes were organised by Bikaner unit of Rajasthan on the theme of border area development programme.
